A bright red pigment comprising of mercuric sulfide and varying in color from crimson to nearly orange. It was the color of Jehoiakim’s house, which was condemned by the prophet Jeremiah (Jer 14:22). Ezekiel declared it the color of images of Chaldeans in the condemned city of Oholibah (Jerusalem).
